John Piper on Generosity

To make others glad in God with an everlasting gladness, our lives must show that He is more precious than life. To do this we must make sacrificial life choices rooted in the assurance that magnifying Christ through generosity and mercy is more satisfying than selfishness. If we walk away from risk to keep ourselves safe and solvent, we will waste our lives.

Feedback on A More Elite Soldier

From Chase in CA

I purchased the book A More Elite Soldier after seeing it on a website that I was visiting. After purchasing the book I found out it wasn’t the military biography I thought but it was a book about God and how to serve Him. I, not really being a Christian, and having misconceptions about what religion was all about, was skeptical at first but decided to give it chance anyways and took it all in.

The book hit me hard. A lot harder then I could have imagined. I felt like I was missing out on a great thing. It got me to thinking about Christianity and what it is all about. I decided I would email Mr. Holton with the address found in the back of the book. Surprisingly he emailed me back and we got to talking about things and he asked me if I was a Christian. I told him not really but it sounded like a good thing but I just didn’t know where to start. Mr. Holton then wrote me an email telling me how I should get started and the prayer I should pray. So after several days of thinking it over I knew it was the right thing to do so one night I sat down on my bed and put my face in my hands and began to talk to God telling him that I wanted Him to be a part of my life and that I wanted to serve him. It was good feeling to just hand yourself over something I never thought I would be able to do but something I’m thankful I did.

Since then I have found out more and more about what Christianity is all about I realized that this life and what you do in it is not all about you, which I once thought. It is so much bigger then that. I like my new lifestyle and enjoy having a purpose for everything I strive to be or do. I look forward to building on my new relationship with God and learning how I could be a better soldier in his army.
