Quote by Robbie Doughty
Sometimes people write and ask me how a Christian could be a soldier, putting himself in a position where he might be required to take a life. Today, I read a letter by Staff Sergeant Robbie Doughty, a special forces soldier who lost both legs in an IED attack in Iraq. His humble spirit and can-do attitude say it all, as does this quote from one of the letters on his website.
“Some of the SF medics go on to be doctors, nurses, or physician’s assistants, they are literally a doctor most of the time anyway. It makes you wonder why guys that are smart enough to do something like that stay in the Army. I mean, they could’ve just as easily been making alot more money in a safe and comfy hospital. I’m just glad that they do it, I don’t always question their reasons, but I’m sure that their reasons are similar to mine. They are patriotic, they enjoy the cameraderie in the Army, and the sheer adventure aspect of it. They believe in this country, and are willing to stand up for it, and do whatever it takes to make sure it stays safe. They are the kind of people that are willing to fight to make sure we feel safe when we go to sleep at night. They fight so we can feel comfortable when we go to the grocery store, or to the shopping mall, without the fear of a terrorist attack. They are the people who hate violence more than any liberal protester, but are prepared to use it to give that protester the right to speak his or her mind even if it may be directly against them. They get their reward in personal satisfaction instead of money, and they know they are doing an important job for our country, and doing it well. “
