On September 12, Oliver North appeared live on the 700 club, just one week after I got that privilege .

I’m back safe from Afghanistan – a day later I was speaking at a men’s conference here in West Virginia, then took the family along to CBN Headquarters to appear live on the 700 club before running off to take my boys on that long-promised backpacking trip before the summer is gone.  A friend said of my schedule, “boy, you never slow down, do you?”  My answer?  “Hey, I don’t want to spend my life lying in bed!”

It is nice to be home.  Anymore, the time I get to spend at our wonderful farm in the mountains of Appalachia feels more like vacation then, well, my vacations.  And I don’t mind.  It’s hard sometimes, traveling alone in hostile places and being away from loved ones and hot showers, but oh!  The things I get to see!

Here’s one example.  My last week in Afghanistan, I was embedded with the U.S. Special Forces near the Pakistan border.  I’d already gone to bed one night when an SF Sergeant kicked my door in.  At first I thought we were under attack.  But then he assured me he had something more fun than incoming fire to show me – an Afghan Bachelor party.

I mean really, how many people get to attend something like this:
